Hi,
We have had a few questions from parents and I hope that this provides some clarification. In the past, homework was due every two weeks, however, now that we are doing learning at home, the homework is due EVERY week. We will post weekly activities and schedules every Monday, and will post the instructions for math daily so that students do not get ahead. In regards to returning student work, at this point "CBE is currently determining the expectations for student assessment and will provide an update on further direction once it is available." I hope this provides some answers going forward, Thanks, Grade 3 Team Glamorgan School Notice
Dear Parents and Guardians, The Alberta Government has cancelled all classes until further notice. Schools are open, but to protect the health and safety of our community, we are not able to accept visitors. As on line classes continue, please communicate with your child’s teacher as required. If necessary, Administration and staff from the Main Office would be happy to connect with you. Please email [email protected]. with your inquiry, or phone (403) 777-8310. For your awareness, all School Messengers will now also be posted on the school website,http://school.cbe.ab.ca/school/Glamorgan/Pages/default.aspx for your easy reference. Please check the school website for system updates. It is possible to coordinate pick up of any remaining personal belongings, or musical instruments, during the following times; Monday to Thursday 9:00 to 4:00, Friday 9:00 to 2:00. When you arrive to pick up items please go to the Main Entrance and buzz for entry during these hours. Staff will direct you to the exterior door for you to enter and collect your child's supplies. Thank you for your ongoing support as we continue to provide instruction. Kevin McDougall Principal, Glamorgan School This is the letter that was or will be emailed out to you today:
Dear Parents/Guardians, It has been great connecting with all of you over this past week. This email is to inform you as to how you can access the homework postings for the coming weeks. As this is a new situation for everyone, at this time we are not certain about how students will be submitting their completed work, but we will let you know once we have further direction. Below is a link to an article we believe to be informative about education during these unprecedented times (it is by no means put out by CBE, but an opinion piece that we came across in the news and thought might be helpful for some families during this time, and offer another perspective): https://nypost.com/2020/03/29/coronavirus-is-providing-the-course-correction-kids-desperately-needed/?utm_source=facebook_sitebuttons&utm_medium=site+buttons&utm_campaign=site+buttons&fbclid=IwAR13zJL3164KPcbM0Qjz1rcF7b3mGMjUxtsnnKXJ4uMSodVv0fS4STZ6OIU We would like to remind you that we absolutely believe in the importance of academics. That being said, we want to emphasize that mental health is just as important during these times. Please continue to monitor your child’s well-being during this challenging time. Routines are also important to help offer stability during times of change or stress which is why we are only requiring 1 hour of homework each day. Also, as teachers, we are concerned about long periods of screen time for children. We will be offering extension activities in addition to assigned work, these are suggestions that you can use to help promote your child’s learning based on activities that we would conduct in class. They are by NO means mandatory and we do NOT expect children to be online for extended periods of time. Online Learning Access:

Thank you for your patience and support as we rethink and reimagine our learning platform!! Keep safe and healthy. The Grade 3 Team Welcome to online learning! :) This week we are attempting to connect with all families, so you should be receiving an email or phone call from your homeroom teacher by the end of this week.
For the remainder of this week ( March 31-April 3rd) we recommend slowly getting back into the routine by logging onto IXL and same with Raz-kids. If you are having issues logging into these please let your homeroom teacher know by email. Thanks and we will be in touch later this week :) Grade 3 Team Hi Parents, Here are some resources about Covid for Students, as well as some resources on how to talk to your children about this and how to stay healthy. Thanks, Grade 3 team
We are aware that you have many questions and concerns. For current updates refer to the CBE website (cbe.ab.ca), Glamorgan School website (http://school.cbe.ab.ca/school/Glamorgan/Pages/default.aspx) and school messengers. For now, please refer to this message from our school principal.
Dear Parents and Guardians, Effective Monday, March 16, 2020 all classes across schools in Alberta have been cancelled due to COVID-19. Children are not to attend school. Parents can view information on our main web page at cbe.ab.ca. for the most up to date and accurate information. Once determined, we will send out a School Messenger outlining a schedule for picking up student belongings. Any items belonging to the school such as library books, text books, and musical instruments will need to be returned when parents come to pick up their students belongings. Please take a moment to ensure that you have any school items ready to return to the school. We are hopeful to begin this ‘controlled school entry’ process asap. You must wait for this message to be sent and only come to enter the school during your provided time. There will be no exceptions to entry to the school. It is important to note that no parent or student should enter the school with any symptoms of respiratory illness (fever, cough, fatigue, and/or muscle aches). Thank you for your support. Kevin McDougall All Schools Closed Due to COVID-19
On Sunday, March 15 the government announced that all classes are cancelled immediately and indefinitely due to COVID-19. We thank the government for listening to school boards and parents to support the health and safety of students, staff and families. Please do not send your students to school Monday, March 16, 2020 and until further notice. Before and after school programs are also cancelled. Learn more about the situation and actions CBE is taking to support students, staff and families. SAVE THE DATE: The Grade 3 Assembly will be on February 18th at 1:30pm. We will be showing the school and parents some of the things we have been working on.
A reminder about next Wednesday- This went out last week:
"Dear Families, Winter is a special time of year with many cultures celebrating a variety of holidays. These holidays focus on bringing family and friends together. In addition, everyone gets two weeks off of school! On December 18, all Kindergarten to Grade 3 students and their families are invited to come to our Winter Holiday Family Night at Glamorgan School. The doors open at 6:15 pm and our evening will conclude at 8:15 pm. Our Winter Holiday Night will include games and activities in classrooms, our “Baking Buffet”, and individual grade group performances. Individual grade groups will be performing their concert while the other events are going on. It will be up to parents to ensure that their child(ren) are at their performance meeting spot on time. The table below shows when each grade group is performing. Grade Group Meeting Time (room 29) Performance Time (gym) Kindergarten 6: 15 6:30 Grade 1 6:45 7:00 Grade 2 7:15 7:30 Grade 3 7:45 8:00 Note: When not at their performance, families are encouraged to attend the activities in classrooms and the “Baking Buffet” in the Learning Commons (Library). Parents, please bring your students to Room 29 (across from the Gym), 15 minutes prior to their performance. We ask that only families of the students performing be in the Gym during the performance. Following the performance, parents will pick up their child(ren) in the Gym and proceed to other activities around the school. We ask that all families quickly exit the gym following the performance so the next grade group has time to get ready. In addition to the activities, there will be a Baking Buffet. We are asking families to donate a plate of treats to the event. These special treats should be one that your family would enjoy during your favourite holiday. Treats should be portioned into individual servings, and be enough to serve 10 – 20 people. Families will be able to enjoy a sampling of everyone’s delicious treats. We look forward to seeing you all at this special event. Happy Holidays from, Your Kindergarten to Grade 3 teachers" Halloween Events on Wednesday, October 31.
All students may come to school dressed up in their costumes. Students who choose not to wear a costume may dress casually for the day. We will have a short "parade" for the Kindergarten morning classes, and a school wide parade beginning at 1:30pm followed by classroom community building activities. Further information on that afternoon's activities will be provided through your child's teacher(s). Glamorgan School asks that students leave any weapons that are part of their costumes at home. Violent, gory, or immodest costumes are not permitted for the school Halloween costume dress up. Parents and students are reminded that we have a no food or candy sharing policy at Glamorgan School. Parents of trick or treaters are asked to ensure that their son/daughter does not bring excessive candy to school the week following Halloween; 1-2 small Halloween treats in a lunch kit would be considered appropriate. Have a Safe and Happy Halloween!" Alternative activities will be available for anyone who chooses not to participate in the Halloween activities. Halloween activities brought to you by the Grade 9 Leadership Students. On Thursday, October 31 Leadership Students have organized a School-wide Haunted House and a Junior High Dance. The day’s events are intended to be a fundraiser for the Calgary Food Bank and a fun activity to build school community. Haunted House for all Grades -Admission: Twoonie and/or Food Bank donation |
